Variable General Info
Wave height attenuation ?Comment:Wave height attenuation is computed by a separate model in which reef friction is associated with the degree of topography over the reef flat. Three options for calculating friction were provided in the paper. 1st: The percent cover of benthic habitat within each cell, in particular live coral or uneroded dead coral, can be used to define fw from 0.08 to 0.20. This option and these values are used here for this model. The two other options are: 2nd: Coral reef habitat can be categorized into four broad classes to assign values to parameters and estimate wave energy attenuation by reef type (fw 0.14 to 0.18). 3rd: Estimates of reef rugosity or variability in coral heights along the reef can be used to more directly estimate fw. |
